As Black History Month is kicking off, Westminster City Council will be hosting a number of free virtual events in partnership with different special guests as well as Westminster’s Archive team and Black History Studies. The following webinars, virtual tours and online sessions will recognise and explore the history and achievements of Black African and Caribbean communities in Westminster and throughout the UK.

Black history lunchtime webinars
Running every Friday in October, each webinar will cover a variety of topics around Black history. From a virtual Black history tour of the British Museum and exploring London’s Black community in the 15th century to learning the hidden history of Africa before the slave trade, there is much to discover during these lunchtime webinars.

This lunchtime talk will explore the experiences of young Black people throughout history and the present day, featuring special guests Michael Parker CBE, Dr Aggrey Burke and Professor Gabriel Ivbijaro.

Youth justice and disproportionality
During this session, you will hear from members of the Westminster community as well as mentors from Wilmot Dixon and the Youth Offending Team to discuss disproportionality and personal experiences within the justice system.
