Commercial Waste Disposal – Our London A to Z

For the launch of our Commercial Waste website for Westminster City Council in January 2014, we introduced a new feature – a commercial waste disposal A-to-Z.

The idea was to provide an easy-to-search list of items that businesses wanted to dispose of or recycle, but didn’t know how to go about it.

The A-to-Z list tells Commercial Waste customers which bags or bins their items should be placed in. And for the items that can’t be collected, there’s advice, addresses and contacts for help with disposal.

We also added a small form on the A-to-Z page so that if we’d missed an item, businesses could make suggestions. This facility has turned out to be very popular. Since its launch, our modest list has expanded to over 160 items thanks to ideas we received through the website!

What have our customers added?

Recent additions have included: paving slabs, fuel and (one of our more unusual requests) chopsticks! Sadly, wooden and plastic chopsticks aren’t recyclable and go in the general waste (red bags or general waste containers). But the good news is that they are, therefore, used to generate energy via the energy from waste recovery process.

In terms of trends in items added to the commercial waste A-to-Z, there’s been a huge increase in the number of electrical and electronic items. Printers and printer cartridges would be one such example, and photocopiers are another popular addition to the list.

In the ‘somewhat uncommon’ list, we even found items such as pianos, china plates and wool.

If you’d like to take a look at the complete commercial waste disposal A-to-Z list, please click on the banner below which will take you straight to it. And do feel free to add any items that you find missing. We could soon be up to 200 unique items!
