Westminster is home to many institutions, heritage sites, museums and educational establishments that attract millions of visitors from across the world every year. At Commercial Waste Services, we work with a number of these, including Royal Albert Hall, Central Hall, Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral and the Institute of Contemporary Arts.
Since commercial waste management goes way beyond simply collecting rubbish, we understand the importance of offering tailor-made services and solutions for our clients. Read on to find out how we make it easier for Westminster institutions to maintain clean, presentable premises, so they can create welcoming first impressions for members and visitors.
Why choose Commercial Waste Services
We offer a reliable and flexible service to all of our clients and have the experience to handle all types of waste — from confidential and clinical waste to bulky waste and food waste.
Typically, we follow a process with our clients that identifies and supports improvements to their waste management and recycling. The following steps might be included:
-
- Waste audit
- Improvement plan
- Internal support with bins, posters and training
- Monitoring of waste management processes
- Helping with achieving progress on corporate environmental goals and objectives.
The ultimate results are a boost in recycling, lower costs and better environmental performance (especially valuable when you have Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets to meet).
We collect a wide variety of waste and recycling from numerous business types across Westminster. We have solutions available for the different types of waste from museums and institutions, most of which is easily recycled or recovered since it consists of:
-
- General waste
- Paper and cardboard recycling
- Security shredding and secure destruction
- Glass recycling
- Packaging recycling (such as plastics, cans and cartons)
- Food waste
- Coffee cup recycling.
Why is this important? Separating waste into multiple different streams is the best way to save on costs and make your waste management and recycling more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Why should you choose Commercial Waste Services?
Our key service values are to be affordable, responsible, local and reliable, as well as benefiting the environment. This means that our core offering is suited to institutions who seek to be at the forefront of sustainability and responsible corporate behaviour.
Commercial Waste Services operates an industry-leading fleet, one that is constantly trialling alternative fuels and expanding its electric refuse collection fleet. By choosing us as a waste collector, Westminster institutions and museums will be aligned to the City Council’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, 10 years ahead of national government targets.
Private waste collectors place an unnecessary burden on the environment and duplicate journeys that already exist as part of the City Council’s collection system. Commercial Waste Services operates as a default service throughout Westminster, contributing to better air quality by using up-to-date vehicles. Traffic congestion in the city is also reduced by avoiding duplicate vehicle movements.
As part of our commitment to creating a welcoming environment for guests, customers and visitors at institutions and museums, we also offer comprehensive deep cleaning services. Due to Westminster’s heavily populated and high-traffic environment, hard standing areas (forecourts, steps, loading bays, etc.) around businesses can quickly become dirty and grimy from oil stains, fast food, rubbish, chewing gum and foot traffic. At Commercial Waste Services, we can help through bespoke solutions for deep cleaning services, ensuring they are tailored to your business’ needs.

Our work with Central Hall
Central Hall, a prestigious multi-purpose venue and tourist attraction in Westminster, first approached Commercial Waste Services with the objective of increasing their recycling rate, which was struggling at just 11% back in 2017. We set out to provide Central Hall with the necessary guidance and support to achieve this and to help the venue become more environmentally sustainable.
After conducting a full waste audit, we liaised with Central Hall to implement services that would help improve waste management and recycling performance. These included introducing four new waste streams, such as food waste, glass, paper and cardboard and coffee cups, for recycling. We then supported Central Hall staff with education and training on the benefits of an effective recycling set-up.
We also conduct monthly waste and recycling performance reports that track the recycling rate and performance, allowing us to identify areas for improvement. As a result of our efforts, the recycling rate jumped to 68% in a very short time frame, showing a positive impact on Central Hall’s waste management performance.
