There always comes that moment when you look at the item in your hand and ask “can I put this in the business waste?”
With the expansion of waste types collected and recycling, the answer is usually “yes – as long as it processed in the right way.” But there is a small list of what not to put in the business waste because of the danger they can pose.
To help, we’ve produced an A4 poster of dangerous items that must not be placed in any waste bin for pick-up by your general commercial waste collector. The list is based on the experiences of Westminster’s waste collectors, and while most are just common sense, others may need pointing out.
Please click on the image below to download the Guide.
In compiling the list, we also discovered a list of the most bizarre things that Westminster City Council’s Commercial Waste service has collected over the years. I wonder if you are as surprised by them as we were?
If you have any doubt over an item not listed, then please visit our website cleanstreets.westminster.gov.uk and type the item name into the “What do you want to dispose of?” panel on the home page. Alternatively, click on the “Waste A to Z” top menu item to see a full list. If there is any item you can’t see on the list, there is a simple form where you can submit an entry and we’ll add the item to the list.
Read the guide and you’ll be helping to keep our staff and the public safe. Thank you!
