How to dispose of nappies in a safe and legal way

In domestic settings, you can put nappies in general waste bins.

It is illegal for businesses to dispose of nappy waste in general waste bins. To ensure proper waste management, nappy waste be placed in sanitary bins or non-hazardous clinical waste bins. This responsible approach helps us prevent further accumulation of nappy waste in landfills. 

As per the legal requirements, business owners are entrusted with the "Duty of Care" to ensure proper disposal of nappy waste in accordance with the following regulations:

  1. Clearly marked disposal options must be made available for nappy waste.
  2. Nappy waste bins should be regularly and hygienically emptied.
  3. Waste management should be entrusted to licensed individuals or businesses, in compliance with the Environmental Protection Act (1990).
  4. A comprehensive record of all received or transferred waste must be maintained for a minimum of 2 years, using Waste Transfer Notes.
