How to dispose of sharp items

Sharp items such as syringes, knives, blades but also broken glass and crockery should never be disposed of in rubbish bags since when placed on the street they can endanger the public and, most importantly, staff handling rubbish and recycling. Broken packaging glass should be placed in your glass recycling bin. Broken non-packaging glass which isn’t recyclable like drinking glasses, mirrors and Pyrex but also broken crockery should securely wrapped before presenting them for collection as general waste.

Syringes, surgical tools etc are clinical waste which requires specialist handling.
