Commercial waste provision following the sad passing of Her Majesty The Queen

Commercial Waste Services Westminster
Commercial Waste Services Westminster

Following the announcement of the sad passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we are now in a period of national mourning. Her Majesty the Queen’s Funeral Funeral on Monday 19 September 2022 will result in a number of temporary road closures in place across central areas of Westminster, which will restrict traffic in the affected areas.

Until Tuesday 20 September 2022, temporary road closures will be in place across central areas of Westminster which will restrict traffic in the affected areas. For more information on these road closures and affected areas please visit this page. This may affect when you receive your commercial waste collections.

We have made alternative collection arrangements for all customers of the city council’s Commercial Waste Service. The service will operate as normal and there will be additional contact centre support on the weekend of 17 and 18 September.

Waste collections outside the affected area

Collections for Commercial Waste Services customers outside of the affected areas will continue as normal. There will be no collection day changes for these businesses.  However, collections may be delayed due to heavy traffic and access restrictions.

Waste collections inside the affected area

There will be some changes to collections inside the area affected by Her Majesty the Queen’s Funeral.

Information on which area is affected on which date is available here.

We provide a bespoke collection service for customers of Commercial Waste Services inside the affected area that will collect when possible. There may be changes to your regular waste and recycling collection days and times. We have contacted all our customers inside the affected area. A copy of this communication is available here.

On Wednesday 14, Thursday 15, Sunday 18, and Monday 19 September 2022 major events will take place in this area. On these dates, please do not place bagged waste out on the street at all, under any circumstances, until after the event. Bagged waste cannot be placed out at all between 20:00 on Sunday 18th September and 17:00 on Monday 19th September.

If you use our containerised collections, and if there only is access to these for our collection crews at designated times, then please liaise with us on alternative access arrangements now.

Ordering extra collections or commercial waste bags

If you anticipate having more waste than normal during the next week, please order additional collections now. We ask that you also order additional commercial waste bags, as deliveries for these will be affected by the road closures.

Privately collected waste

Businesses who use a private waste collector for their commercial waste may only place waste out for collection if it has been confirmed that this private collector has access to the affected premises. This may not be possible inside the locked-down area due to security restrictions. If this causes issues, then please contact us so we can help.
