Have you seen the new tulip cycle wands in Westminster? Made from your recycled waste!

If you’ve visited Bayswater lately, you might have noticed the new Tulip Cycle Wands brightening up the streets. These vibrant, tulip-shaped bollards not only improve the appearance of our streets but play an important role in keeping cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers safe. Inspired by the iconic poppies at the Tower of London and the sunflower fields of the Tour de France, these tulips clearly mark the cycle lane and stand out from the grey road.

Made from your recycled plastic

The tulip heads are made from recycled plastic collected here in Westminster. When your business puts out plastic packaging in mixed recycling, it’s taken to our material recovery facility in Southwark. There, the recycling is sorted, and plastic packaging is sent to a processing facility in Rainham. This facility sorts plastics by type, colour, and quality before being sent off for cleaning and grinding to be turned into pellets. These pellets become the raw material used to manufacture new products, including the Tulip Cycle Wands.

The tulip heads are crafted from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the sturdy plastic used for milk and detergent bottles. Thanks to this recycling process, plastic waste gets a new lease on life while helping make our streets safer and more vibrant.
