Recycling Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Electrical waste over the Easter period includes everything from illuminated window displays and electronic signage to kitchen equipment used during peak trading. These items could contain hazardous components that require specialist treatment. Never dispose of electrical items in general waste bins, the 2013 WEEE Regulations apply to every business that produces e-waste in any form including simply using electronic and electrical products. Instead, contact your dedicated Commercial Waste Services account manager to arrange a compliant WEEE collection. We provide collections tailored to your operational requirements, complete with proper waste transfer documentation for your business records.
Batteries and fires
Before disposal, remember to remove batteries from electrical items, as these require separate battery recycling. This is not only a legal obligation, but proper battery disposal is key in preventing fires in Commercial Waste Services vehicles and facilities. Not to worry however, we can help your business get rid of batteries responsibly. Simply click the link below to contact us and set up a special collection.
Recycling aluminium foil
Hospitality and retail sectors generate considerable aluminium foil waste during Easter, from chocolate egg wrappers and confectionery packaging to food preparation materials and takeaway containers. The good news is that most aluminium foil is recyclable when prepared correctly. Use the simple scrunch test: if the material stays compressed when scrunched, it's recyclable aluminium foil. If it springs back, it's metalised plastic and belongs in general waste.
To recycle foil effectively, rinse off any chocolate or food residue, then compact clean pieces together into roughly tennis ball-sized portions. This makes metal recycling easier and maximises your bin capacity. Foil can be included in your existing dry mixed recycling collection from us, so be sure to speak with your account manager to optimise your recycling configuration.
