London LGBT+ Community Pride CIC is celebrating Pride in London, with events running through Saturday, 2nd July. This year is a significant milestone for the event, as it commemorates 50 years since the first Pride took place in the United Kingdom.
The largest, most diverse pride event in the U.K, Pride in London seeks to celebrate the LGBT+ community and provide a platform to challenge prejudice and continue the fight for equality.
Westminster City Council and Veolia are proud supporters of Pride in London and look forward to celebrating diversity in Westminster and within our own workforce and staff. We are thrilled to share that we will be present on a float during the parade, which will make its way through the heart of the West End on 2nd July.
Celebrating diversity in London
Pride in London is hosting a variety of events, including Pride’s Got Talent, which helps to showcase creativity across LBGT+ communities, and a two-week, city-wide Festival that precedes Pride weekend.
This year’s campaign slogan is #AllOurPride, which seeks to both commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the first Pride march and recognise the many ways Pride is celebrated.
The parade route on 2nd July will begin on Park Lane and travel down Piccadilly. It will then cross Piccadilly Circus before travelling down Haymarket and turning left towards Trafalgar Square and dispersing on Whitehall.
Event areas include Trafalgar Square, Golden Square, Leicester Square, Dean Street, St. Giles in the Fields and Soho Square.
Local businesses should expect to see roads closed across the whole footprint of the parade route and event areas. This may affect access for deliveries and waste collections.
Commercial Waste Services will be running as normal
Westminster City Council is committed to celebrating LGBT+ diversity in its workforce and throughout Westminster.
To show our support, we will join Veolia as we march in the Pride in London Parade on 2nd July. As sponsors of the event, we will have a float and walk along with our electric vehicles. Veolia has also adorned a number of its other vehicles and street barrows with Pride livery.
Additionally, Westminster City Council is supporting Pride in London celebrations with reliable, sustainable and affordable commercial waste collection services. The streets participating in the parade will not receive collections during the hours of the parade. However, Commercial Waste Services is offering customers on these streets an early morning collection between 6am and 8am. Additionally, we will be the only waste collection service clearing waste in the area once the parade has ended. Businesses who use the collection services of the City Council and Veolia will have all their waste collected during the event clean-up. Customers on any surrounding streets will receive their waste collections at the regular times.
If you use bags to have your waste collected, then please ensure you only present it in the official Westminster City Council red and blue bags. Please do not use ordinary black bags to present commercial waste for collection. If needed, we can assist affected businesses within the security zones and road closure areas with a bespoke service during the event. Due to increased trading during Pride, also ensure you order extra bags or container collections to cope with the extra waste you might produce.
Customers of other waste contractors will need to make their own alternative collection arrangements directly with their contractor. There will be no access for these contractors for as long as roads are closed and security cordons are in operation. This is up to 05:00 on Sunday 3rd July in most of Soho. Privately collected waste cannot be placed on the affected streets during this period under any circumstances.
Our commercial waste collection services ensure both affordability and sustainability throughout the year. Choosing our low-emissions services reduces the number of waste trucks servicing your street by avoiding duplicate collection journeys of other commercial waste collectors.
Pride in London is expected to be a significant event on 2nd July, and many businesses are booking extra waste collections and deep cleansing services for the extra footfall over the weekend.
